Purpose: Organizational Goals

Provide a platform to communicate corporate vision, build online communities/team, share team success stories and provide essential services/information to current employees.

Connect is an internal site that provides a platform to build online communities/teams, share information but employees have often shared their frustrations when using Connect due to poor design and lack off engaging content.

Usage: User Goals

  • Get current company information – Stocks and Company Events
  • Access benefits – Health, 401K
  • Human resources and other company documents
  • Participate in online community
  • Learn about HS, organization, culture, leadership, sites, mission and goals
  • Signup for Health benefits
  • See what’s cooking in Cafe
  • Access Holiday Schedule
  • Access My Department assets

Research

I am currently in process of evaluating Connect’s UI/UX and conducting user interviews. Which are done in-person and through an online survey to gather information. So far from the information collected and screens from current site I have created a rough wire-frame and new logo.

Typical hardware

Desktop & laptop with Windows 8, 10 and Server with 16GB ram or more.

  • 1920×1080 (Largest monitor in use on desktop. Physical dimensions 21 inch)
  • 1680×1050
  • 1440×900
  • 1366×786 – Most common on laptops
  • 1280×1024 (Smallest monitor in use. Physical dimensions 17 inch)
Users
  • Current employees – CEO to Directors, Manager and staff etc…
  • Age group: 25-65
  • Tech savviness: varies from department to department
  • Mostly accessed when employees are at work 8-6pm
Pain Points
  • Poor/Broken UI / Fixed layout / Unresponsive
  • Poor Navigation – Hard to Navigate
  • Unfriendly Design Complex UI
  • Hard to use or understand
  • Too corporate
  • Little customization
  • No integration with other systems like time-sheet, calendar, or task manager
  • Outdated logo and layout
UX Goals
  • Increase engagement by building value into Connect System/Environment
    • Improve Navigation and allow for custom bookmarking
    • Increase layout customization to provide personal workspace
    • Improve mobile accessibility
    • Integrate Connect with commonly used tools to provide seamless experience
Workshop 1
What do TSMs/User want from Connect?

This features list was put together in a live workshop with 18 TSMs/Users:

  • Theme-able / Modern / Clean / Professional / Responsive Layout and Logo
  • Customize-able homepage design
  • Chat/Internal Messaging/Announcements
  • Internal feedback surveys
  • Shared space for messages and documents/pictures for various events (Halloween party, thanks giving feast, etc…)
  • Ability to easily access HR and My Department and bookmark favorite sub-sites
  • Henry Schein Timeline with team member hiring dates and picture

Connect Logo – Redesign

Created Mood and word boards with stakeholders and Product owners.
